Empowering Kilifi Together: Nurturing Growth, Building Sustainable Futures

Empowering Students Through Financial Support and Educational Opportunities

The Bursary and Scholarships Division of the Kilifi County Department of Education and ICT is committed to ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder students from accessing quality education. Our division manages and administers various bursary and scholarship programs designed to support students from low-income families, marginalized communities, and those facing financial challenges. By providing critical financial assistance, we enable students to pursue their educational aspirations and contribute positively to society. The division focuses on the following key areas:

1. Administration of Bursary Programs

We oversee the distribution of bursaries to eligible students across Kilifi County. These bursaries are designed to cover essential educational expenses, such as tuition fees, books, and uniforms. The division works closely with schools, local administrators, and community leaders to identify deserving students and ensure that the funds are allocated equitably and transparently. Our aim is to provide timely and effective financial support to those in need.

2. Management of Scholarship Programs

In addition to bursaries, our division manages scholarship programs that recognize and reward academic excellence, talent, and leadership potential. These scholarships are awarded to high-achieving students who demonstrate exceptional promise in their academic pursuits or extracurricular activities. We collaborate with various partners, including government agencies, NGOs, and private sector organizations, to expand the reach of these scholarships and increase the number of beneficiaries each year.

3. Targeted Support for Vulnerable Groups

We place a strong emphasis on supporting students from vulnerable and marginalized groups, including orphans, students with disabilities, and those from minority communities. Our division ensures that these students receive the necessary financial assistance to continue their education without interruption. We also provide additional support services, such as mentorship and counseling, to help these students overcome challenges and succeed in their studies.

4. Application and Selection Processes

The Bursary and Scholarships Division has established clear and transparent application processes for all our programs. We provide guidance and support to students and their families throughout the application process, ensuring that they understand the eligibility criteria and requirements. Our selection process is based on merit, need, and adherence to established guidelines, and we strive to make the process as fair and inclusive as possible.

5. Monitoring and Evaluation

To ensure the effectiveness and impact of our bursary and scholarship programs, we conduct regular monitoring and evaluation activities. This includes tracking the academic progress and well-being of beneficiaries, assessing the utilization of funds, and gathering feedback from students, parents, and schools. These evaluations help us refine our programs and make data-driven decisions to improve the support we provide.

6. Partnering with Donors and Stakeholders

Our division actively seeks partnerships with donors, foundations, and other stakeholders who share our commitment to education. These partnerships enable us to expand our financial support programs and reach more students in need. We work collaboratively with our partners to design and implement targeted scholarship programs that address specific educational needs and priorities in Kilifi County.

7. Capacity Building and Awareness Campaigns

We believe that empowering students and their families with knowledge about available financial support is crucial. Our division conducts capacity-building workshops and awareness campaigns to inform the community about bursary and scholarship opportunities. These efforts ensure that eligible students are aware of the resources available to them and understand how to apply for financial assistance.

8. Alumni Engagement and Mentorship

We recognize the importance of maintaining a connection with our bursary and scholarship beneficiaries even after they complete their education. Our division has established an alumni network that provides a platform for former beneficiaries to give back to the community, share their experiences, and mentor current students. This network also serves as a source of inspiration and encouragement for students who are currently receiving financial support.

9. Crisis and Emergency Support

In times of crisis, such as natural disasters or economic downturns, our division provides emergency bursaries and scholarships to students whose families have been severely affected. These emergency funds are intended to prevent students from dropping out of school due to unforeseen financial hardships. We work quickly to assess the needs of affected students and provide the necessary support to keep them in school.

10. Reporting and Accountability

Transparency and accountability are central to the operations of the Bursary and Scholarships Division. We maintain detailed records of all financial transactions and regularly report on the distribution and impact of bursaries and scholarships. These reports are shared with stakeholders, including donors, community leaders, and government officials, to ensure that our programs are managed with integrity and effectiveness.

The Bursary and Scholarships Division is dedicated to breaking down financial barriers and creating pathways to educational success for all students in Kilifi County. Through our comprehensive financial support programs, we strive to empower the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers who will contribute to the growth and development of our community.
