A meeting between the department’s leadership, managers, and instructors from Kilifi North, Malindi, Kilifi South Subcounties, and Vitengeni VTC was convened at Gede Vocational Training Center. The County Executive Committee Member for Education and ICT, Hon. Felkin K. Dena, Chief Officer for Education Mr. Fredrick Nguma, and Director of Vocational Training, Madam Eddystella Wanja, addressed critical issues facing Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) in the County.
During the gathering, Hon. Felkin K. Dena announced the county’s intention to recruit 100 instructors, prioritizing those currently employed by the Board of Management (BOM). Additionally, discussions focused on expediting pending promotions for instructors to ensure swift career progression within the educational sector.
Chief Officer Mr. Fredrick Nguma highlighted efforts to secure capitation for VTCs, revealing that a bill is underway at the county assembly to formalize funding mechanisms. Once passed, this bill will allocate capitation funds to enhance the operational capacities of VTCs. Nguma also outlined plans for a hardship allowance targeting instructors serving in challenging areas, including the entirety of Ganze and Magarini Subcounties and selected areas within Malindi Subcounty.
The meeting concluded with a unified commitment to advancing educational standards and supporting VTC instructors in the County.
